Does Rolfing Hurt?
The most common statement we hear from first time clients is their amazement at the pleasant sensations they experience from being Rolfed. It seems that most people associate Rolfing with pain and unfortunately avoid the treatment due to this misconception. Rolfing does not have to be painful in order to be effective. In fact, Rolfing is a very gentle and intentional therapy that is ultimately concerned with the experience of the client over the goals of a particular session. Often, our clients come in with a limited vocabulary for sensation. As they receive Rolfing, they discover the pleasure and release after being stretched to their edge (much like a yoga stretch). The sensations that arise from being Rolfed are generally pleasurable, occasionally intense and ultimately filled with relief and a sense of ease.
